The Diva Challenge (#172) this week was a duo-tangle of Auraknot and Mooka, two official Zentangle tangles. This was hard. I drew many Auraknots, watching Maria and Rick’s video again and again. I struggled with jaggedy lines, awkward curves, triangles that gained extra angles, losing focus, perfection. But I love how the tangles are perfectly matched. Lots of lines that could be evenly spaced. Lots of ambiguity about where the lines begin and end.And I rush. I want to get things done so I can get on to the next “thing,” even if I love doing this “thing.” More, better, faster. Mastery now. That’s not the point of Zentangle. That’s the voice of my anxious mind. In the end, I created three to share. I had the vision, but was rushing. (Why?) I also struggle with the light-weightedness and fibrousness of the Renaissance tiles. I like them, but I prefer stiffer paper.
Recently, a friend told me that when she sees me, she sees someone who always makes beautiful things. It was such an honor to be seen for that gift and inclination. Yes, appreciating and creating beauty is innate for me.
I thrive on recreating the beauty I see in my mind’s eye or creating a representation of the beauty I see in the world. The images in my mind’s eye are fleeting.
Like grabbing for tiny leaves blowing in the wind, I scramble to recreate the images in my imagination.
My challenge is to trust. I can trust that what I am “given” is exactly what I need in that moment. I can trust that I will hold on to the images and words that are important — the ones that I think of when someone else is talking, and I know to listen to the other, and trust that my response will follow.
I can trust that I have enough time to do what I want to do. There is enough time — and space — for me to do and be uniquely me in this world.

All very nice, but I ‘specially like how you’ve used small sort of triangles for the “bubble” in Mooka. Cool!

You did a great job with these tiles.

I feel the same way about the tan tiles; however, I find that if I slow down with them, I have better luck. All three are lovely. I am drawn to number three though as I like the little highlights in the tops of the Mooka.

Great job but as always you will get differing opinions about things. That is why I think it is good to get comfortable with your own work, even getting comfortable with looking at it with a critical eye. I like all 3 but am partial to the first. I like the white highlights in the Auraknot.

Before reading the other comments, I was drawn to number three. The other two are also very noteworthy. Very good job.
